Kingdom Keepers Book Review

Have you ever wondered when the last tea-cup spins at Walt Disney World? In Kingdom Keepers, a book by Ridley Pearson is about a group of Disney Villians trying to take over the park. 5 kids, modelled at DHI holograms who tour people around the park are the only ones who can save Disney. There are 5 books in the series that are out now. They are all really good. They talk a lot about behind the scenes and of course, the rides. if you are a Disney geek, you need to read this series.

Head to Head #2

By Mr.Moneybag$
If you are still interested, the winner of last weeks Head to Head is Katniss, this is because Katniss is quick on her feet and has good survival and archery skills, where as Robin Hood  has good accuracy but not as many survival skills and is not as quick as Katniss. Katniss would quickly run up (after Robin Hood scored a few hits) and stab Robin Hood with an arrow. This weeks Head to Head is Yoda or Optimus Prime.

Review on Kinect Disneyland Adventures

Review by Zach

Kinect Disneyland Adventures is fun for the whole family. It is for both Disney Geeks and Game Geeks! You can spend a lot of time just walking around the park. It feels like you are in the kingdom. You can also spend a lot of time playing the games at each attraction. In the game, you might pass by a lady dressed up as a tour guide. If you go up to her, she will tell you a fact about Disneyland. How cool is that? Just in August, we went to the D23 Expo. They had a test run of the game. It wasn't even out yet. Geek Central quickly played it and a few months later, we checked it out again. Photo from http://whysoblu.com/d23-expo-kinect-disneyland-adventures/

Kinect; Star Wars

By Mr. Moneybag$

You know that fantastic system made by Microsoft the Xbox and the Xbox 360; well they made something for the Xbox 360 called the Kinect. The Kinect is a great way for you to excersice while playing video games, it is basically a Wii, but with no remotes. We played it at Comic-Con  (my imployee of the month and I). As soon as Kinect Star Wars came out my whole department wanted it, the one who got it before me was T-man. He beat it already! I finally got it and even though you have to go through a bunch of stuff before you actually play the game, the game is still fantastic! You really feel like a Jedi, it is so fun! You really have to get this great system.

Did You Know This?

By Dr.Pan¡c

Hey guys, just thought maybe I'd post a few interesting facts on the blog just to make your day.

Bruce Lee was so fast that they actually had to slow a film down so you could see his moves. That's the opposite of the normal.

Bone is five times stronger than steel.

Sharks can live up to 100 years.

About 75 acres of pizza are eaten in in the U.S. Everyday.

An average human speak 4,800 words in 24 hours. Don't believe me count.

And for my final interesting fact since I'm a movie geek I thought I'd tell you this: The very first movie studio that was interested in the 1980's horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street was The Walt Disney Company.

Thnks for reading.

Color Run Review

Review by Zach

Hey Everybody. Today, Geek Central headed up to Long Beach California to run the Color Run. The race is only 3 miles. Every half mile, you get sprayed by color. It is very cool. Here is our review on it: The Color Run was a great experience, we recommend to get to the site of the race about 2 hours early. It gets crowded really quick. Once you have arrived, go get your bib number and goodie bag. The bag includes; a Color Run design head band, tatoo, shirt, and a bag of color. After that, just hang out in your car. (It was cold when we went). Then about 30-45 minutes before the race, line up. People even start lining up around an hour before the event. Then you are off on the 5k. Every half mile you get sprayed by volunteers with bottles of color. Each spot is a differant color. (Yellow, Green, Purple, Orange and Pink) Then at the end, everyone takes the bag of color they got when they arrived and throws it up in the air. It is so cool. Such a great experience. Certainly 5 stars out of 5. Remember though; you really should wear glasses when you run. The photo is where everyone throws the color bags up!!!

D23 Expo Review

Hello everyone, here is my review about the D23 Expo the ultimate Disney fan event. It is every other year at the Anahiem Convention Center. Just it's last expo on August 19-21, the Geek Central crew was there taking pictures and videos. At the D23 Expo they have so much to do. For some of the time, your kids can hang out with the casts of differant Disney TV shows. The Geeks got to see the cast of Good Luck Charlie and Lemenade Mouth. Then you can walk around the show floor. Lots of great booths to check out. Then you can see a presintation or presintation's. We saw two of them. One was Behind the Page, Making of Kingdom Keepers series. The author Ridley Pearson was a great speaker. The last presintation we saw was the Parks and Resorts Presintation with chairman Tom Staggs. He and other Imagineers talked to us about upcoming rides in the Disney parks. And we only went one day. You can go all three if you want to! The expo was certainly a event to always remember. To me, the expo would be 4 out of 5 stars! If you missed the expo, the next one will be August 9-11 in 2013!

Dick Clark Dies!

On Wednesday morning, the TV legend Dick Clark died of a heart attack. You may know him from the radio and of course Dick Clark's Rockin Eve! That day, some of stars we know call out to him on twitter.
Ryan Seacrest: "I am deeply saddened by the loss of my dear friend Dick Clark. He has truly been one of the greatest influences in my life. I idolized him from the start, and I was graced early on in my career with his generous advice and counsel. When I joined his show in 2006 , it was a dream come true to work with him every New Year's Eve for the last 6 years. He was smart, charming, funny and always a true gentleman. I learned a great deal from him, and I'll always be indebted to him for his faith and support of me. He was a remarkable host and businessman and left a rich legacy to television audiences around the world. We will all miss him.”

Mayor Bloomberg: “Times Square is considered the crossroads of the world in no small part because Dick Clark’s New Years Eve celebrations there were beamed across the globe. I remember one New Years Eve, he and I stood in Times Square marveling about how much the area – and the City – had improved over the years. But Dick Clark never had to change – he was a great entertainer who stood the test of time. Generations of Americans grew up with Dick, and yet he seemed forever young. His spirit will always live on in Times Square, and in hearts of millions of New Yorkers.”

Wonder-Con Review

By Mr. Moneybag$
Do you want something that is like Comic-Con but not as crowded? Well then you should go to Wonder-Con. It is one of the "offspring" of Comic-Con. Although it is not as popular and does not have as many booths as C-C it is still very fun. I went to a 'how to build your own R2-D2' panel, and Star Trek panel. I even got a signed comic-book of the illustrator for the new DC comics (Brian Buccellato) for free! Another reason you should go is that they can have VERY famous people. The same rules apply as Comic-Con (which is better) and something that applies for each eek convention, GET YOUR TICKETS EARLY!!!!

Comic-Con Review/Tips

By Mr. Moneybag$

Comic-Con is a place for all types of geeks. Movie geeks, comic geeks, video game geeks, etc. They have actors, directors, producers, etc. This is a chance for the creators to sign, hang, and occasionally party with fans. You can go to different panels to see things that are upcoming, already out, and more. But it is not all fun and games, geeks here are brutal. There are thousands of geeks all wanting the same thing and will do anything to get it. The food is way overpriced and you might leave with a bruise but lots of loot. So here are some tips to survive at Comic-Con:

  • Bring your own food
  • If you wear a costume be prepared to take pictures with people
  • Get in lines at least an hour early
  • Bring your own bags, poster tubes, backpacks, etc.
  • Don't expect to get to all the panels you want to
  • Watch out for the crowds (all around you!)
  • Bring something to occupy you in lines
  • Keep track of your stuff at all times
  • Get your tickets early

Legoland California Resort Review

Legoland is fun for the whole family. They have over 60 rides, shows and attractions. The park is mainly for kids ages 2-12. Each ride is split up in a differant land. Just last year a new area in Miniland opened. It is called "Star Wars Miniland." Miniland is places in small size. The Twin Towers are only about 10 feet!!! Also, the are all made of legos. This summer a new ride called Pirate Reef will be opening up. It is where you go on a boat and go down a 25 foot drop splashing guests on two lifesize Lego ships. It will be a must see attraction. Legoland is certainly a place fun for the whole family.

The Simpsons Live Where?

By Josh
On Tuesday, April 12, 2012, Matt Groening, creator of the popular cartoon series The Simpsons, revealed where The Simpsons live. I've always thought that they lived Springfield, Illinois. I guess I was wrong. It turns out that these wacky characters live in.... Oregon. Yep, thats right. These wacky characters all come from Oregon. Pretty crazy huh? Our geeks are just as shocked as you are so don't worry. Even our geek in The Simpsons catagorey wasn't expecting this. So if you're one of them Simpson fan folks and you figured it out, kudos

Hunger Games Movie Sequels

By Josh
It has been revealed by Lionsgate that two more(possibly three more) sequels are in the process of being made right now. Catching fire is scheduled to come out on November 20, 2013 while the other two, are unknown. Director Woody Harrelson has stated that he has signed a contract with Lionsgate for three more films. This means a total of four films will be made, which also means that a book could be split into two movies or it could simply be its own movie created by the director. Lets hope the story is from the book.

Titanic 100 Years 1912-2012

Today, exactly 100 years ago, the Titanic cruise ship sank to the bottom of the ocean. On May 31, 1911, the ship was launched with no christening. It's maiden voyage started on April 10th 1912. The cruise was from England to New York. With over 850 crew members including Captain Edward Smith, you would think nothing could go wrong. But it did... At 11:40 PM, the ship struck an ice burg. The Titanic would no longer take guests anywhere. To this day, the ship is a part of history. Now you can be apart of it's history by going to go see the movie made. It is called the Titanic. Also, if you are heading to San Diego, go to the Museum of  Natural History and see the exhibit. It is where you are placed on the ship with a fake name and everything. One of our geeks was able to visit the exhibit, so hopefully we will have a review on it soon. If you would like to learn more about the remains of the ship, visit this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kgfjw-PeGR8&feature=related

Legend of Zelda-Skyward Sword Game Review

Review on Legend of Zelda- Skyward Sword

By ~White Knight~ (Winner of the first person to comment contest)

Despite the fact that Nintendo latest console (the Wii) still refuses to play high- definition games, the only reason that many gamers still stick with the Wii is because of the astounding collection of first-party games in Nintendo’s arsenal. Once again, Nintendo has crafted a masterpiece that begins- unlike many videogames- in the sky. Although the cliché gist of the stereotypic plot is still strong, there are many features that will make a player return to the franchise.

When I first got the game, I was pleased to find that a complimentary Zelda music track was included in an additional cd. But the game was what I had been yearning for, so I slipped it into my console. When I first got to the title screen, I created a new save file and spawned in Skyloft (Link’s new home; this story doesn’t take place in Hyrule), eager to try out the controls- now enhanced with the Wii MotionPlus. The graphics weren’t something to praise, although the bright colors made Skyloft a beautiful place. However, I had one issue with the beginning- the game had been undeniably built for a widescreen TV.  On an old 16;9 ratio TV, you would have to move up toward the screen and squint your eyes to read the words. However, this was not much of a problem, because I was easily able to transfer my Wii to another TV.

At the beginning of the game, you are forced to do menial jobs (such as running errands). Later, a ‘knight ceremony’ takes place, an event in which you finally get to try out the new actions of the Wii motion plus. This is the event in which you finally see Zelda. Although her lips look oddly bloated, the art style fills it in. as soon as you meet her, it becomes apparent that they are close to each other- she wakes up link in the morning just to make him see her special dress.  As you free your special bird (called a Loftwing) from a cave in which some bullies have tied it up, you are allowed to test out the controls by tilting the Wii remote, in which Zelda( the daughter of the knight academy instructor) teaches you basic movements. After you win the knight ceremony, Zelda congratulates you and preforms a goddess ritual. After she finishes, she rides off into the clouds with link, only to be captured by a black swirling vortex. And the adventure only goes skyward from here.

Eventually, link goes down to ‘the land below the clouds.’ Once there, he lands in an area called ‘Faron Woods’. Once again the art style shines, and everything looks amazing- for a Wii game. I don’t want to spoil the rest for you, but link eventually meets creatures that help him with his quest for Zelda. His master sword, known as the ‘skyward sword’ has an entity in it, nicknamed ‘Navi,’ and with her comes a new capacity-dowsing. Basically, it turns your sword into a radar to help you locate critters, hearts, treasure, and most importantly, Zelda. Afterward in the game, he visits other realms: desert , volcanic, forest(Faron woods), and more.

Even though I haven’t finished describing the game(it has too much content to really explain it), it has great controls, and the storyline is amazing, but with flaws. Although I hated the fact that you had to re center the Wii motion plus accessory every few minutes, that is a software flaw by Nintendo, so there was no dirt about it. I liked the color, storyline and controls; and with a little software edit, it would be a perfect game. Overall score: 9/10. This is a game that players won’t want to take for granted. Back to The Future Movie Review

Review by Zach
Hey Everybody. Doesn't everyone want to go back in time? If you go back in time, you can see your parents grow up. That is exacly what the movie is about. Marty Mcfly (Michael J. Fox) goes back to 1955. (When his parents were in High School). The only problem is he needs to get back to 1985 (Present Day). He has help from younger Doc, (Christopher Loyd) the man who made the time machine. The only way he can back to 1985 is lighning. Can he make it in time before the lighning bolt hits a clock tower? You have to see the movie to find out! Back to The Furture is certainly 5 out of five stars.

Contest!

Hey Everybody,
We are going to have a little contest. The first person that comments on a review or post, will get to write a review themeselves for the blog.

Hunger Games Review

Review by: Zach, Lucas, Josh and Alex
The Hunger Games came out on March 23 and has already made 36 million in the box office. The Geeks at Geek Central quickly headed to the theatre to watch. Here is our review. The Hunger Games was really a great movie. Lionsgate dared to mix love with violence. The movie is about a world that has been divided into 12 districts 1 being the best 12 being the worst. A girl named Katniss has volunteered in place of her sister to compete in The Hunger Games which is a horrific battle to the death between 12-18 year olds. One boy and one girl from each district has to compete in this spectacle the boy from district 12 being Peeta a boy who fed Katniss in her darkest hour but now she has to kill him. This movie I would rate 9 out of 10 stars! If you have read the book you NEED to see this movie! But I would like to warn you it may be violent for kids but not for geeks!

Welcome!
