Did You Know:
That Batman made his First Appearance in 1939

He was in Detective Comics #27 inspired by Sherlock Holmes and Da Vinci's sketch of Zorro, a flying bat-machine created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. (He was first drawn wearing a Zorro like contraption on his back.)

"Swindle" Movie Review

By D.Z. 'Theme Park Specialist"
A few days ago, I was able to watch Nickelodeon's newest movie, "Swindle." The film is about a high school student named Griffin finding a baseball card inside his house. His friend thinks the card could be worth about 300 bucks, so they visit a dealer and try to sell it. A guy nicknamed Swindle is the dealer, who tricks them with false information, paying them a small amount of cash. He claims the card is not worth much, but come to find out, the baseball card is worth over 1 million dollars. After hearing the news, the two boys try to get the card back. They gather a group of friends and make one big team. Each character has a different talent, used to its finest. The group goes on a crazy journey, just for that one little card. This movie is full of excitement and laughter. I recommend watching this film! Out of 10 I would rate the film an 8. The film airs on Nickelodeon every so often (for probably the next week.) and hopefully will be on DVD soon.

Six Flags Parks in 2014

By Beemerboyz803
It's official! This past Thursday, August 29, Six Flags chairman, president, and CEO Jim Reid-Anderson has announced Six Flags's plans for 2014. Each park will be receiving new and exciting attractions for the 2014 season. Here are some exciting plans for 2014!

Six Flags Great America, in Gurnee, Illinois, will be receiving a new wooden coaster entitled Goliath. The ride will be one of six Six Flags coasters named Goliath. The coaster, at 180 feet, will replace the park's Iron Wolf coaster which closed in 2011, and will be the fastest wooden coaster in the world at 72mph. The coaster, which breaks three records in the wooden coaster category, is the next big thing on Great America's skyline. Ready to conquer it?

Six Flags Mexico in Mexico City will be renovating one of their classic wooden coasters: Medusa. The attraction will receive the Iron Horse transformation Six Flags Fiesta Texas's Rattler coaster received this Spring. The coaster will definitely be a show-stealer at Six Flags Mexico. So, estar listo! Be prepared to conquer Medusa Steel Coaster in 2014!

Six Flags Great Adventure, a raging animal/theme park in New Jersey, will soar to new heights in 2014. Much like Magic Mountain opened the record-breaking Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom in July 2012, Great Adventure will open Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom. The ride will replace the park's classic Rolling Thunder attraction, and will take guests 415 feet in the air and then drop them at 90mph. It will tie with Lex Luthor for the tallest in the world. The ride will also be constructed on the side of the park's monumental skyscraper, the 456-foot tall Kingda Ka, the tallest coaster on Earth. Feel the rush when this monumental attraction roars its way to Great Adventure next year.

Six Flags Fiesta Texas in 2014 will receive a new water slide complex for their amazing White Water Bay water park. They will receive Bahama Blaster, a series of slides where riders step into an enclosed capsule and have the floor drop beneath them as they rush at 40mph through coils and loops.

Ready for some whitewater fun in Hotlanta? Well, Six Flags Over Georgia, almost an hour from downtown Atlanta, will be receiving Hurricane Harbor, a water park that will be a perfect "Caribbean getaway". The park will open around summer 2014 and will give guests a cool and refreshing experience.

Six Flags America is getting their rage on! In 2014, along with a Mardi-Gras themed area, the park will receive their 9th coaster, Rajin' Cajun. The ride will twist around crazily and will rage its way to Six Flags America in 2014. Ride the rage!

Are you ready to soar higher, and higher, and higher, and higher? How about 400 feet higher? Well, get ready for the New England SkyScreamer, the new 400-foot tall SkyScreamer swing ride that will be the tallest in the world! Riders will be lifted 400 feet above New England and will twist around the main tower. Be prepared to soar to new heights when New England opens their SkyScreamer in 2014!

Time to bring the towels! Around summer 2014, Six Flags St. Louis, along with Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, will receive Tsunami Soaker, similar to the pirate soaker ride at Legoland California. Riders will sit in a circular car and will soak nearby challengers. Get ready to get wet!

Las Vegas: Trip Report

By D.Z. "Theme Park Specialist"
I was able to spend 4 days in Las Vegas, Nevada! The trip included three shows, great food and lots more. This trip report will outline these days!

DAY 1: Most part of this day was spent at my local airport. My flight landed in Las Vegas at around 5:00pm. I took Spirit Airlines. For a review of the airline, click here (coming soon).

z7
Once landed, I went straight to my hotel. It was already dinner time, so I needed something to eat. I went to a place called Grind Burger. The food was delicious. My taste buds were all over my burger. I have never had such a good burger. For a full review, click here. (coming soon)

Our hotel had a shuttle service, stopping at different destinations per hour. My first stop was Treasure Island.

3
Treasure Island Hotel and Casino.

Video tour of Treasure Island.

At 8:30pm, I caught the showing of "Sirens of TI,' a free outdoor show at Treasure Island. I videoed the whole show:

The show did not personally impress me, but it was still nice to see!

5
The show was preformed on a pirate ship in front of the hotel.

6
It was almost 9:00pm when the show ended, so we headed back to the hotel. It had been a long day, traveling from one state to the other.

DAY 2: I spent the morning in bed, as I was still tired from the day before. Day 2 officially began around 3pm, when I took a limo to Acrylic Tank Manufacturing.

8
You may know Acrylic Tank from the show 'Tanked" on Animal Planet.

c
Acrylic Tank Manufacturing is a company who customizes fish tanks and aquariums. You can see them in action every Friday at 10pm on Animal Planet.

f
While we were at the warehouse, they were filming one of the episodes!

We were also able to meet some of the cast. They were all really nice and welcoming.

i
After checking out the warehouse, we were dropped off at the Luxor. The Luxor is one of the many hotels on the strip, but by far the most breathtaking.

Once we finished wondering around the hotel and casino, we continued to visit more hotels.

I am a big fan of the hit TV show Kitchen Nightmares. In the show, world class chef Gordon Ramsay visits restaurants who are in a bad financial situation. In just a few days, he transforms the whole restaurant into a fine dine place. I have always wanted to taste Gordon's food. Not too long ago, Ramsay opened up another restaurant on the strip.

m
BurGR is located in the Planet Hollywood Hotel and Casino.

o

Of course I ordered a burger. I was so amazed by the taste. It had so much flavor, more than I can remember. The quality of the burger was amazing. I have never had such a good burger in my life. I really recommend visiting the restaurant. I waited about 15 minutes for a table, but every second was worth it.

q

After my yummy dinner, I walked over the Bellagio. I caught the first showing of "O," a Cirque Du Soleil show.

"O" is a water show, filled with a number of swimmers, divers, dancers, and acrobats. I have never seen something so beautiful. The shows production is huge. I can't imagine what it is like to put on a show like this. The whole stage is a swimming pool. I think of the show as Olympic swimmers meet Cirque Du Soleil. There was never a dull moment in the show. The show does not have much dialogue, so the cast is usually preforming with live music. The music is being recorded on each side of the theatre. A lot of set pieces move around the water stage, so divers are in there to help. The show is so big and beautiful, unlike anything I imagined. I would give the show a high 10/10. A trip to Las Vegas is not complete without seeing this show. Be sure to get your tickets early, as they do sell out way in advance. reservations.mirage.com/otickets

DAY 3: After a long night after seeing "O," I wanted to dedicate some time to visiting hotels. This was my first time in Vegas, so I had to see what everyone was raving about. One of my stops was New York, New York.

t

After roaming around inside, I found a small pizza place, where I could get a little bite to eat.

u

While eating, this is what I was surrounded by. It really looked like I was in New York. From the buildings to the crowds, it was all similar. New York, New York does have a rollercoaster, but I didn't feel like screaming at large heights. Especially in 100 degree whether.

z

After my snack at New York, New York, I traveled all the way across the Strip to the Venetian. This hotel transports you into the world of Italy. I went to the hotel to eat dinner, but was also given a cool view. While eating a yummy salad, I was entertained by the gondoliers. They were singing while touring guests around in a gondola.

z2
At around 6:00, I was time to head over to the Luxor. It was time to see "Criss Angel BELIEVE." This Cirque Du Soleil show brings magic to life with comedy and illusions. The show is hosted by Mindfreak Criss Angel. Criss is one magician that stands out. From walking on water, to levitating over the Luxor, Criss has done it all. It was great to witness some of his magic in person. Criss has some assistants, who preform most of the act. Criss does participate in the act, but mostly narrates what's happening. Audience members were able to participate in some of the acts, but mostly it was left to the professionals. I loved all the humor in the show. Sadly, some of the acts were a little confusing. I think Angel could of explained the tricks a little more. Out of 10, I would give the show a 8. I recommend seeing the show on your next visit to Las Vegas!

After the show, I went back to my hotel.

DAY 4: Headed for home!

Why Batmobiles are Better than Actual Cars

Have you ever wondered to yourself, 'why doesn't Batman just drive a Ford or Chevrolet'? Well, I Mr. Moneybag$ will tell you why. It is becausewith the batmobile you can have a ridiculous amount of thrusters, have missile launchers, and go over the speed limit within the law in style too. You can also have a long vehical without a sign that says three point turns, in fact it is a long car that doesn't even make three-point turns. It also prevents your stuff from getting stolen with it's tasers, tear gas, and hypersonic trilling. You can also go off road with the giant gel-filled, kevlar lined, flame resistant, and puncture proof, heck, you can drive this tank on wheels almost anywhere.

Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel Review

By Beemerboyz803
Last night, I was able to watch the premiere of Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel. The story follows Phineas and Ferb, who meet the Avengers and Spiderman when their powers are drained by one of their inventions.
Overall, this was one of the best Phineas and Ferb episodes I've seen in a long time. Considering the fact that it has been on Disney Channel since August 2007, most people, including me, have probably gotten the idea that the show is running out of good material and concepts to use for their episodes (examples: Cheesetopia, a cheese-themed amusement park).
Even though you could pretty much predict the ending by the middle of the episode, I rate this episode a 9/10.
Following the Marvel crossover with Phineas and Ferb, a sneak preview surfaced of Disney Channel's newest animated show, Wander Over Yonder, starring Wreck-It-Ralph's Jack McBrayer.

I found out that next year will be the last year for Phineas and Ferb. The show will continue to air episodes. What do you think the finale will be? The first day of school? We'll just have to wait and see.

*Wander Over Yonder will premiere on Friday, September 13, just two days before another new Disney Channel show, Liv and Maddie, which aired its promo on July 19, following the premiere of Teen Beach Movie.

Club Penguin Receives Teen Beach Movie Takeover

By Beemerboyz803
Last month, Disney Channel released their newest movie, Teen Beach Movie, which revolves around Mack and Brady, two best friends who get stuck in a movie from the 1960s called Wet Side Story. They end up changing the destiny between Lela and Tanner (the main characters of the movie) and have to find a way to get home.
Several weeks ago, Club Penguin uploaded a Teen Beach Movie advertisement on the front page of the website. Penguin Island will be transformed into the world of Teen Beach Movie. Characters can buy clothes to match certain characters, like Cheechee or Rascal. Mack and Brady, as penguins, will be doing  a performance every day at a certain time, and members even get the chance to meet them backstage. Also, people can hang loose and relax at Big Momma's, the hangout zone the surfers and bikers feud over for in the movie.
Players can also choose their own side: biker or surfer. Also, be on the lookout for penguins around the island who may look familiar from the movie.

Teen Beach Movie will takeover Penguin Island starting Thursday, August 22, and will end Monday, September 2. So, are you ready? COWABUNGA!!

Teen Beach Movie premiered on Disney Channel on July 19.

D23 Expo 2013: Trip Report

Anaheim Convention Center
By D.Z. "Theme Park Specialist"
On Friday, August 9th, I was able to attend the first day of the 2013 D23 Expo!

Outside
I arrived to the Anaheim Convention Center at around 9:30am. Because I have a D23 membership, I could get in before it officially opened at 10am. After some confusion on where to get in line, I got in the D23 member line. This line wrapped all around the street. I really didn't want to wait in that line, so we just left.

We went to the Clarion Hotel for a small buffet breakfast. I already ate breakfast, so this would count for my lunch. The buffet did not have much to offer, but what was offered satisfied me. Just ten minutes after we sat down to eat, the whole D23 Expo line was gone.

Outside
Outside of the Convention Center was the Waffle-Inator. This was an outdoor celebration, all for promoting the new "Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel" special on Disney Channel. The main draw of this outdoor experience was this giant tower. It was a recreation of "Doofenshmirtz Evil Inc." A giant screen allowed characters to interact with guests.

In my opinion, this was not as cool as most thought it would be. Earlier this year, the Anaheim Convention Center expanded, by closing off it's main street. They created Grand Plaza, an outdoor venue. I was happy that Disney used the Grand Plaza space, but think more could of been offered.

D23 Banners
Like I said, after ten minutes being in the hotel to eat, the whole line cleared. Around 10:30am, I was able to just walk in the expo, without waiting a bit. Walking in, I saw three huge banners, welcoming all of the excited guests.

Check-in
I quickly got my badge and then got a guide book, outlining the 3 expo days.

D23 Show Floor
When I got inside, the show floor was not crowded at all. Because of the big "Art and Imagination: Animation at The Walt Disney Studios" presentation, everyone was in the Arena.

Collector's Forum
I quickly went toward the Collector's Forum. I first stop was to see Wallace from Disney Cartography. If you have been following the Optimist, you know why I wanted to meet artist Wallace.

Drake Bell
While walking over to the booth, I spotted Drake Bell, a Nickelodeon actor. After talking to him, I learned he is voicing the role of Spiderman in "Phineas and Ferb: Mission Marvel." It was great talking to him, as he was just freely walking around.

030
After waiting in line for three short minutes, I was able to personally sit down and talk with Wallace.
To hear what he said, watch the video.

Wallace
Wallace filled me in on the last scavenger hunt, for the game. I was sadly not able to partake in the hunt, as it took guests to Disneyland, and I didn't have a ticket.

032
After meeting Wallace, I went through more of the Collector's Forum. Then, I left the show floor and hurried to the 3rd floor of the expo (Stage 23). I was one hour and 15 minutes early for "Undiscovered Disneyland."

Undiscovered Disneyland
The presentation was hosted by soon-to-be Disney Legend Tony Baxter (Tony became a legend on August 10th.) and imagineer Josh Shipley. For one hour, the two shared never before seen footage from vintage Disneyland. This included many different attractions, gone and renovated. We videoed the whole event!

(Video Coming Soon.)

At the end, surprisingly (unknown to Tony Baxter and guests) Tom Staggs, Chairman of Parks and Resorts came out onstage. Josh Shipley then left as Tom took over for the last 10 minutes. Tom talked about what Tony has done with the Walt Disney Company. Baxter began working at Disneyland as an ice cream maker and is now receiving a Disney Legend. To honor Tony, Staggs showed a 60 second video, outlining Tony's many accomplishments. Then Tom announced that Tony would be receiving a window display on Main Street. This is a very high honor. Then Tom had one more surprise. They randomly got lights to spot different seats. All those spotted guests will get the opportunity to attend Tony Baxter's window ceremony. That marked the end of "Undiscovered Disneyland."

After the presentation, I went back down to the show floor. It was already 1:30pm, so it was time for the Ridley Pearson meet and greet.

042
You could meet author Ridley Pearson between 1:15 and 2:15pm on Friday at "Talent Round-Up."

Ridley Pearson
This was my second time meeting Ridley Pearson. Ridley is the author of Kingdom Keepers, Peter and the Starcatchers, and many more books. He has written over 40 books, and is a bestselling author. In May, I was able to chat with him on Skype about his latest book. watch the interview by clicking here.

It was great seeing Ridley again!

078
After the meet and greet, I headed over to the Parks and Resorts pavilion. Last expo, I wasn't able to go inside the exhibit, so it was one of my main priorities this year.

Open House of WDI
The theme of this years exhibit was an "Open House." Disney can't take everyone to their Imagineering base in Glendale, so they brought it to the expo.

044

After waiting in line, you were shown a small Imagineering video.

Once inside the pavilion, you were immersed in the world of technology and Imagineering.

Avatar Land
For the past two years, Disney has been working hard on a major project. In 2016, Avatar will be brought to life at Disney's Animal Kingdom. The imagineers working on the project attended the expo, so they could to talk about their recent trip to Pandora.

S1430144
They were also teasing Star Wars, with a bunch of closed crates. All except one. Artoo came out and greeted with guests.

S1430146
Disney Springs was also apart of this years exhibit. On display was a model of what the completion will look like!

S1430138
The same day this years expo opened was the 44th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland! They actually brought out the Hatbox Ghost, to show how it works.

S1430165
While we were there, Tom Staggs (Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts) and a few others, including WDI Bruce Vaughn, appeared and walked around the Parks and Resorts floor. I was personally able to talk with Staggs, as I told him how excited I am for Disney Parks and its upcoming projects.

153
After checking out the Parks and Resorts exhibit, I continued to walk around the show floor.

064
I went by Wallace's booth again. He was still at his desk, talking with guests. There was a long line to meet him.

S1430017
Last expo, I did not check out all of the booths in the Collector's Forum. This year, I went to each and every one, to see what they offered. Ortlando Attractions Magazine was at the event, promoting the magazine, blog and show. I even saw the two hosts, Banks Lee and JeniLynn Knopp.

WDW Radio
WDW Radio and Mouse Fan Travel both had a booth together. All 3 days, they were broadcasting at d23expolive.com.

D23 Show Floor
Disneyland also had a booth. They sold Disneyland twilight and Mickey's Halloween Party tickets.

D23 Show Floor
Disney Infinity.

090
The Disney Channel pavilion hosted a number of star signings.

At 3:40pm, the cast of "Lab Rats" came out and signed autographs.

D23 Show Floor
It was already late in the afternoon, so I was getting ready to leave. Passing by WDW Radio/MouseFanTravel, I noticed they were interviewing Ridley Pearson. I then decided to stay for a few extra minutes.

WDW Radio Interview
For some time, Ridley sat down with host Lou Mongello to talk about Kingdom Keepers, the expo, and what's next.

(Video Coming Soon.)

Lou Mongello
WDW Radio host Lou Mongello asked Ridley a number of questions, live streaming at d23expolive.com.

Ridley Pearson
Ridley Pearson discussed Kingdom Keepers and what's his new series about.

136
After the Ridley Pearson interview, I once again went back to Wallace's booth. It was very crowded.

Optimist
I learned that a lot of people had just completed the scavenger hunt. Wallace rewarded them with copies of his art.

035
At around 5:45, I left the Anaheim Convention Center.

157
I walked to Downtown Disney. It was about a 10 minute walk from the Convention Center to the gate. I had dinner at the House of Blues.

171
And that's my D23 Expo day!
