Today is the 75 anniversary of the
Golden Gate Bridge. That means the bridge has celebrated 3 BIG milestones. Now
here, we will tell you some history of the bridge.. IT IS NOT JUST A BRIDGE!
The bridge is one of the most recognizable symbols of San Francisco. Tourists
refer to it as "possibly the most beautiful, certainly the most
photographed, bridge in the world." The bridge is a short route from San Francisco
to Marin County. Back in the 1800s ferry's were around. They were called the
Golden Gate Ferry Company. But that was not enough. Lots of people wanted a
bridge. Lots also said it would not be possible. The concept was laid, but an
engineer said the cost would be about 100 million. Then a company promised it
would be built for 17 million. They then started designing what it would look
like. The construction started, and they opened the bridge on May 27, 1937! 75
years ago from today! If you want to learn more about the bridge's history,
