TOMORROWLAND MOVIE: Pulling it All Together

By Zach Cooper
We are just one month away from the release of Brad Bird's "Tomorrowland" film. Many optimists have been waiting for the release of this movie for almost two years! This post will highlight our knowledge on what we currently know about the film.

THE OPTIMIST: We've known about some "secret society" from the beginning! On July 9th, 2013, Disney announced a several week alternate reality game (ARG), which was said to culminate at the 2013 D23 Expo in August.

Many Disney fans, including us participated in the game!

The main character was a fictional person named Amelia, who lives in Rhode, Island with her mother. Earlier that year, her grandpa, Carlos, passed away. She claims he was an "optimist", who was a great writer. Going through his stuff, she uncovered many mementos and papers from the 1964-65 New York World's Fair with the "it's a small world" attraction.

One of the names Amelia uncovered was "Michael T. Lott" of Lott Family Construction. We later found Lott's email address, so many optimists sent him an email. Many emailed him mentioning the World's Fair, it's a small world, and Carlos. On one email reply, he mentioned that he remembers hearing "this gosh-darn awful racket coming from this back room."(it's a small world)

Just days later, we learned about Wallace, who owns Disney Cartography. He seemed to know a lot about the past of the Disney theme parks. His website featured many pieces of artwork. His site also mentioned that he was hosting a live chat just days before the expo.

We learned of a secret society which was created by some of the worlds most brightest minds.  We saw in a visit to Club 33 some of the names of those great minds, which had their initials inside a display case. Names included Thomas Edison, Walter Elias Disney, Eiffel, Amelia Earhart, Nicolas Tesla, Samuel Clemens, Jules Verne and HG Wells.

Over July and early August, many other meet ups took place around the Los Angeles area, including at the Tam O' Shanter, Griffith Park, Chili Johns and other popular places. Many pieces of the puzzle were coming together.

August 9-11th was the D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center (next to Disneyland Resort). Wallace had a booth set up, where he sent players on a mission throughout the expo and into Disneyland Park. It concluded inside the Main Street Cinema, who each person receieved a "T" pin.(We now know from the Tomorrowland movie trailers that the same pin took the main character from the movie Casey into Tomorrowland.)

TRAILER INSIGHT:
Throughout the many pieces of footage aired on television, in the theater previews and on YouTube, we have seen many different pieces of the film come together.

Trailer #1:  Focuses on how the main character Casey got herself into this situation. It centers around the pin, which shows Casey her first sight of Tomorrowland. Then we hear the narration of Frank Walker , who describes a place "where nothing was impossible" and "you could actually change the world."

Trailer #2: With a quick recap of Casey's vision of Tomorrowland, this trailer mostly centers around Casey finding the place of Frank Walker. As soon as she is there, Frank and Casey are both found by "they", who invade the home. In a getaway, Frank and Casey hop in a bathtub, which launches them straight out of the house.

Trailer #3: We see an in debt part of what happens inside Frank and Casey's getaway from Walker's house.

Japan Trailer: Certainly my favorite trailer, this video is on the Disney Japan Facebook page and really pulls in the whole story. Instead of explaining it in words, take a look at these snapshots.

(Below are a few of my favorite parts shown in snapshots directly from this trailer)

Trailer Snapshot
Opens up with a small shot of the 1964-65 New York World Fair.

We then see the younger version of Frank hopping onto the attraction "it's a small world".

Trailer Snapshot
Frank's pin triggers a laser light, which causes a huge wall to open, which reveals a large water ramp. (We have known about some kind of hidden area in the attraction from The Optimist game.)

Trailer Snapshot
Frank is sent down the water ramp.

In the trailer, we also see and new face in the picture. Her name is Athena. She claims to of given Casey the pin.
